Mallorca is the practical heart of the Balearics. Palma is one of the best-connected yachting cities in the Mediterranean — a deep-water port, an international airport twenty minutes away, and a refit and service industry that keeps a large part of the charter fleet on the island through the season.
The coastline changes character as you move around it. The south-west, from Puerto Portals and Puerto Adriano to Port d'Andratx, is where most charters begin: sheltered water, good restaurants and short hops between anchorages. North-west, the Serra de Tramuntana falls straight into the sea at Sa Foradada, Sóller and Cala Deià, dramatic and comparatively empty.
East, the calas around Portocolom and Cala Mondragó are shallow, pale-sanded and best explored by tender. And to the south-west lies Cabrera, a national park archipelago that requires a permit the captain arranges in advance.

Cruising
Palma, the Tramuntana and the Balearic islands
A typical week runs west from Palma along the south-west coast, up to Sa Foradada and Sóller beneath the Tramuntana, then back south for the calas and, where the weather allows, Cabrera.
Longer charters continue to Ibiza and Formentera, or east towards Menorca. Routes are set with the captain around the wind: the Tramuntana coast is exposed to the north, so itineraries here are always planned day by day rather than fixed in advance.
