Precision
before power.

Shanghai International Circuit was purpose-built for Formula 1 and opened with the first Chinese Grand Prix in 2004. Its layout was inspired by the character 上 — the first character of Shanghai.

The opening sequence tightens as it turns. The middle sector flows. Then the lap opens into one of the longest straights in Formula 1, roughly 1.2 kilometres, ending in the hardest braking point of the weekend.

5.451 kilometres. Sixteen corners. Fifty-six laps. A lap that asks for patience first and speed second.

Turns 1 — 3

The tightening spiral. Entry wide, radius closing, patience required.

Turns 7 — 8

Fast, committed, flowing. Confidence written into the car.

Turn 13

Long, loaded, endless. The corner that decides the straight.

Turn 14

1.2 km. Then brake. The hardest stop of the lap.

Approximately 1.2 kilometres of acceleration, then the heaviest stop of the lap into the final corner sequence. It is where overtaking happens, where brakes are punished and where engineers spend the weekend searching for efficiency.
