What is an empty leg?
Private aircraft rarely finish one charter where the next begins. The sector in between, flown without passengers, is a repositioning flight — commonly called an empty leg.
Because the aircraft is moving anyway, operators sometimes make these sectors available on favourable terms. LUND GROUP does not operate aircraft: we identify these opportunities through operators and coordinate access for you.

The more you can adapt — a different day, a nearby airport, travelling in either direction — the more likely a repositioning sector will match. Fixed plans are better served by a standard charter.

Where empty legs often appear
Repositioning is most frequent on busy private-aviation corridors: London, Paris and Geneva to the French Riviera, the Balearics and Greek islands in summer, and the Gulf to Europe. This reflects general traffic patterns, not a promise of availability.

Short European sectors see frequent repositioning, especially around weekends and the start and end of summer. Light and midsize jets are the most common aircraft on these movements.

Nice Côte d'Azur is one of Europe's busiest business-aviation airports, so aircraft regularly arrive or leave without passengers — particularly in summer. Monaco is reached from Nice by helicopter or car.

Around major events
After events such as the Monaco Grand Prix or the Cannes Yachting Festival, many aircraft leave the region without passengers. Inbound demand before events is high, so empty legs are less likely then.

Price
Why empty legs can cost less
The operator is flying the sector regardless, so any passenger revenue offsets an unavoidable cost. There is no standard discount, and some sectors are priced close to normal charter.
Certainty
Can an empty leg be cancelled?
Yes. If the main charter changes date, route or is cancelled, the empty leg may move or disappear. Keep a back-up plan for important trips; we can arrange a standard charter if the opportunity falls away.
