How we compile yacht market data

What is measured

Every figure in our market intelligence section is calculated from the yachts Lund Group currently tracks for sale and for charter, together with individually verified records of price movements and reported sales. It is a sample of the market, labelled as such — not a global fleet total.

• Counts of tracked sale and charter listings, live at the moment the page is served.
• Published asking prices, excluding yachts marketed at price on application.
• Published charter rates, taken as the from-rate for the yacht.
• Asking price movements we have recorded ourselves over time.
• Reported sales we have individually verified.

When a figure is withheld

A median or average is published only where at least 5 comparable listings sit behind it. Below that threshold a single yacht would distort the result, so the metric is withheld and the page shows an em dash instead. We would rather show less than imply precision we do not have.

Currency

Asking prices and charter rates are recorded in the currency the yacht is marketed in. Where a figure is aggregated, it is normalised to euro using the rate recorded on the date of observation, and the original currency is retained alongside it. Mixed-currency aggregates are not adjusted retrospectively.

History and dating

When a tracked yacht's asking price, charter rate, name or commercial status changes, the previous value is retained rather than overwritten. A dated snapshot of tracked inventory is recorded so that change over time is measured rather than asserted. Reports and written analysis carry their own publication and revision dates.

Sources

Listing data comes from Lund Group's own records, confirmed with the central agent. Reported sales are published only where the transaction is verifiable, and a transaction price appears only where it is genuinely public and attributable to a source we can name. Most yacht sale prices are confidential and are not disclosed or estimated.

What we will not publish

We do not publish market statistics we cannot source, we do not forecast values, we do not rank shipyards, and we do not present a yacht as an investment. A yacht is a depreciating asset with a significant annual running cost.
