St Barts

French-Caribbean elegance, best seen from the water

St Barts (also St Barth or Saint-Barthélemy) is a small French island in the Leeward Islands of the north-eastern Caribbean. Its harbour town, Gustavia, becomes one of the region's busiest superyacht anchorages each winter.

Bays, beaches and anchorages

Gustavia

The small harbour capital on the island's west side, with a port office, boutiques and waterfront restaurants. Larger yachts usually anchor in the outer roads and use tenders to come ashore.

Colombier

A secluded bay in the north-west, reached only by sea or on foot. Part of the island's protected marine reserve, with mooring and anchoring rules set by the reserve.

Saint-Jean

The island's best-known beach, beside the short airstrip. Calm water, beach restaurants and easy tender landings in settled conditions.

Grand Cul-de-Sac

A shallow, reef-protected lagoon on the north-east coast, known for water sports and quiet hotels. Yachts stay outside; guests come in by tender.

Lorient

A village and bay on the north coast with a relaxed, local feel, good for a quiet lunch ashore or an early swim.

Gouverneur & Saline

Two wide, undeveloped beaches on the south coast. Popular day stops when the swell allows, with little more than sand and sea.

Gustavia

Berth or anchorage?

Space inside Gustavia harbour is limited and allocated by the port, particularly over the festive period. Many yachts, and most larger superyachts, anchor in the outer roads or nearby bays and bring guests in by tender.

Where a yacht stays is decided with the captain and the port, and depends on its size, the dates and the weather. We never promise a berth that has not been confirmed.

A perfect day

One day on the water

  1. Morning

    Breakfast at anchor off Colombier, then a swim or snorkel over the reserve's clear water.

  2. Midday

    Tender to Saint-Jean or Gouverneur for lunch ashore or a beach set-up arranged by the crew.

  3. Afternoon

    Shopping and a walk through Gustavia, or a quiet sail along the leeward coast.

  4. Evening

    Sunset aboard in the Gustavia roads, followed by dinner on deck or ashore.

Anguilla, St Martin and Antigua

Anguilla

A British territory of long, quiet beaches a short cruise from St Barts. Separate customs clearance and cruising permits apply.

St Martin

Half French, half Dutch, with the region's main international airport and superyacht marinas. The usual start or finish for a St Barts charter.

Antigua

Further south, with English Harbour and Falmouth. Often joined to a longer Leeward Islands route.

    Colombier

    A full day in the bay, with snorkelling and walking trails.

    Gouverneur and Saline by tender, dinner in Gustavia.

    Disembark

    Finish in St Barts or return to St Martin for the flight home.

Christmas

A quieter, family-focused week, with time in the bays and relaxed dinners on board or ashore.

New Year

Gustavia is at its busiest over New Year's Eve. Festive charters often carry fixed minimum terms and premium rates, and yachts are usually reserved well ahead.

Your total charter budget

The charter fee covers the yacht and crew. On top of it expect any applicable taxes, an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for fuel, food, drink and port fees, possible delivery fees, and a customary crew gratuity at your discretion. We set out every element in writing before you sign.

Several jurisdictions

St Barts is French, St Martin is shared by France and the Netherlands, and Anguilla and Antigua are British or independent. Each has its own customs and immigration formalities. The captain and local agents handle clearance; bring the passports and documents we advise.

Timing & travel

When to go and flying in

The main season runs from about December to April. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, when many yachts leave the region.

Most guests fly into St Martin and continue by yacht, short flight or helicopter. We arrange private jets and helicopter transfers around the charter.
