The Bahamas

Turquoise shallows, remote cays and complete privacy

The Bahamas is an archipelago of some 700 islands and more than 2,000 cays in the Atlantic, a short flight from the US East Coast. For yacht charter, it offers clear water, white sandbars, sheltered anchorages and a sense of distance that is hard to find elsewhere in winter.

Lund Group curates weekly and multi-week yacht and superyacht charters across the islands, and arranges the jets, transfers and stays around them. Every yacht and date is confirmed with the owner's representatives before it is offered to you.

Where to go

Where to charter in The Bahamas

Nassau

The main gateway on New Providence, with international flights, private aviation facilities and superyacht marinas. Most Bahamas charters start or finish here.

The Exumas

A chain of more than 360 cays and islands south-east of Nassau: sandbars, clear shallows and sheltered anchorages. It is the heart of most Bahamas yacht itineraries.

Eleuthera

A long, slender island with Atlantic beaches on one side and calm Bight waters on the other. Good for quieter days and coastal walks ashore.

Harbour Island

Off north Eleuthera, known for its pink-sand beach and small colonial town. Larger yachts usually anchor off and bring guests in by tender.

The Abacos

A northern island group with a strong sailing tradition, protected sounds and settlements such as Hope Town and Man-O-War Cay.

Bimini

The closest Bahamian islands to Florida, around 50 nautical miles from the coast. Known for sport fishing and a practical first stop from Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

Exumas yacht charters →

The Exumas

The Exuma Cays and their protected waters

The Exumas stretch for roughly 120 nautical miles from near Nassau to Great Exuma. Short hops between cays, clear water and quiet anchorages make them the classic Bahamas yacht route.

The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is a protected no-take marine area. Fishing and collecting are prohibited, and anchoring and mooring follow park rules. Your captain will plan the route around these rules.

Shallow water

Cruising in shallow water

Draft and tides

Much of the Bahamas is shallow. A yacht's draft, the tide and up-to-date charts decide which anchorages and passages are possible.

Tenders do the rest

Larger yachts often anchor in deeper water and use tenders to reach beaches, sandbars and settlements.

The captain decides

No yacht is simply "right" for the Bahamas. Routing depends on draft, weather, tides and local knowledge, and the captain makes the final call.

Families, diving, water toys and private islands

Families

Calm shallows, sandbars and easy swim stops suit children well. We plan the pace, cabins and activities around your family.

Diving & snorkelling

Reefs, walls and clear water throughout the islands. Diving depends on the yacht's equipment and crew qualifications.

Water toys

Tenders, paddleboards, kayaks, seabobs and more, depending on the yacht. We confirm the exact list before you book.

Private island days

Beach lunches and quiet cays, arranged where access is permitted. Some private islands can be visited by arrangement only.

Your yacht

Yachts by size and type

Motor yachts

Speed and comfort for longer crossings such as Florida to the Exumas.

Catamarans & sailing yachts

Stable platforms and, for catamarans, a shallower draft that suits many anchorages.

Superyachts

Space, crew and toys for extended charters. Very large yachts rely on tenders in shallow areas.

Understanding your total charter budget

The charter fee covers the yacht and crew. On top of it you should expect Bahamas VAT and other applicable fees, an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for fuel, food, drink and dockage, possible delivery fees if the yacht comes from Florida or elsewhere, and a customary crew gratuity at your discretion. We set out every element in writing before you sign.

Timing & travel

When to go, Florida and flying in

The main season runs from about December to May. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November, and many yachts reposition then.

Bimini is around 50 nautical miles from the Florida coast, so some charters start in Miami or elsewhere in Florida. Crossings depend on weather.

Nassau and several Out Island airports accept private aircraft. We arrange private jets, seaplane or helicopter transfers around the yacht.

Bahamas or Caribbean

Two different winter charter regions

The Bahamas lie in the Atlantic, north of the Caribbean Sea. Choose them for shallow turquoise water, short hops and proximity to the US. The Caribbean offers taller, greener islands and longer sailing passages. Some yachts cruise both in a season; we will advise on the right fit for your dates.
