Private Aircraft Acquisition

Buying the right aircraft begins with how you intend to use it. LUND GROUP builds the acquisition around your routes, passengers, cabin requirements, operating profile and ownership objectives.

Confidential. No account needed. Your brief is seen only by the LUND GROUP aviation team.

Buyer-side advisory

Start With the Mission, Not the Aircraft

Many buyers begin with a model in mind. The better starting point is how the aircraft will be used: where you fly, who travels with you, which airports you need and how often you fly.

LUND GROUP acts as a buyer-side adviser and sourcing partner. We translate that mission into a written requirement, search public and off-market aircraft, and coordinate the acquisition through inspection and closing. We do not operate a fleet and the aircraft we present are owned by their sellers.

Process

The Acquisition Process

1. Initial consultation

A confidential conversation about how you fly today, who travels with you and what you want ownership to achieve.

2. Mission analysis

Typical and maximum routes, passengers, baggage, airports, annual hours and seasonality, translated into a written requirement.

3. Requirement agreed

Budget, category, new or pre-owned, timing and confidentiality are agreed before any aircraft is discussed.

4. Market search

Public listings, private broker networks and off-market owners are searched against the requirement.

5. Shortlist and comparison

Candidate aircraft are compared on mission fit, condition, maintenance exposure, cabin and value, not specification alone.

6. Offer and letter of intent

Negotiation is coordinated and a letter of intent sets price, deposit, inspection and closing conditions.

7. Pre-purchase inspection

An independent facility inspects the aircraft and reviews its records before the transaction proceeds.

8. Closing and delivery

Escrow, title, registration and delivery are coordinated with your legal, tax and operating advisers.

Mission analysis

What the Aircraft Must Accomplish

Routes

Which city pairs do you fly most, and what is the longest trip the aircraft must complete nonstop?

Passengers

How many people typically travel, and how many on the busiest trips?

Cabin

Do you need to sleep onboard, work, hold meetings, or travel with family and staff?

Baggage

Golf bags, skis, luggage for long stays and pets all affect the right aircraft.

Airports

Short runways, altitude, steep approaches and noise or slot restrictions narrow the choice.

Utilisation

Approximate annual hours shape whether ownership, shared ownership or charter makes sense.

Aircraft category

Choosing the Right Category

The mission points to a category before it points to a model. Compare all six on the Private Jet Aircraft page.

Ownership or charter

Should You Own, or Keep Chartering?

When ownership tends to suit

High and predictable annual flying, a consistent mission, a strong preference for one cabin and crew, and a wish for full control of availability.

When charter tends to suit

Irregular flying, very different missions, or a desire to avoid the fixed costs and responsibilities of owning an asset.

Between the two

Some owners keep charter for overflow or different missions, and some place their aircraft on a charter certificate to offset costs.

Ownership costs

How Much Does Private Jet Ownership Cost?

Costs depend on the aircraft, how much it flies, where it is based and how it is managed. Rather than generic figures, we prepare an estimate for your specific aircraft and use.

Acquisition price

Driven by model, age, hours, maintenance status, programmes, cabin condition and the market.

Fixed costs

Crew, hangar, insurance, management, training, subscriptions and connectivity, paid whether the aircraft flies or not.

Variable costs

Fuel, landing and handling fees, catering, crew travel and hourly maintenance or programme rates.

Scheduled maintenance

Major inspections can be significant; where an aircraft sits in its cycle affects what you will spend soon after buying.

Refurbishment

Interior, paint and connectivity upgrades may be needed to bring an aircraft to your standard.

Depreciation and resale

Values move with the market; model choice and maintenance history influence how well an aircraft holds value.

New or pre-owned

New vs Pre-Owned Aircraft

New aircraft

Latest cabin, avionics and warranty, with specification choices. Delivery positions can involve waiting, and early depreciation is usually steeper.

Pre-owned aircraft

Faster availability and often better value, but condition, records and upcoming maintenance require careful inspection.

Either

Many buyers start open-minded. Comparing a recent pre-owned aircraft with a new delivery position is often the most useful exercise.

Manufacturers

Gulfstream, Bombardier, Falcon and More

We advise across manufacturers. Model specifications are kept in one verified place on our Aircraft page.

Gulfstream

Large-cabin and long-range aircraft from the G280 to the G650ER, G700 and G800.

Bombardier

Challenger super-midsize and large-cabin jets and the Global long-range family.

Dassault Falcon

Trijet and twinjet Falcons valued for airfield performance and efficiency.

Embraer

Phenom light jets and the Praetor and Legacy midsize and super-midsize ranges.

Textron Aviation

Cessna Citation light, midsize and super-midsize jets.

Pilatus and others

Including the PC-24, plus Airbus and Boeing business airliners at the VIP end.

Due diligence

From Specification to the Real Aircraft

Specification vs real aircraft

Brochure range and cabin figures describe the model. A specific aircraft differs by modifications, weight, configuration and condition.

Valuation for buyers

We review comparable transactions, maintenance status, programmes and market supply to judge whether an asking price is reasonable.

Technical due diligence

Damage history, airworthiness directives, modifications and compliance are reviewed before you commit.

Pre-purchase inspection

An independent maintenance facility inspects the aircraft; findings feed into the final price and closing conditions.

Aircraft records

Complete, traceable logbooks and records are central to value. Missing records can materially reduce it.

Engine and APU programmes

Hourly cost programmes can transfer with the aircraft and affect both price and future maintenance exposure.

Cabin and refurbishment

Interior age, layout and condition determine whether refurbishment is needed and how long it could take.

Connectivity

Satellite connectivity varies widely between aircraft and may require upgrades and subscriptions.

Transaction

Negotiation, LOI, Escrow and Closing

General guidance only, not legal, tax or financial advice. We coordinate with your own advisers.

Buyer-side negotiation

We negotiate on the buyer's behalf using inspection findings, records and market evidence.

Letter of intent

Sets price, deposit, inspection location, delivery conditions and timetable. Usually non-binding on the purchase itself.

Escrow and title

Deposits and funds are typically held by an independent escrow agent, with title and registry searches before closing.

Tax, VAT and importation

Where and how an aircraft is delivered, registered and used affects tax and import treatment. Specialist advice is essential.

Registration

The registry chosen depends on ownership structure, use, crew and operation; we coordinate with your advisers.

Financing

Aircraft finance is available from specialist lenders; terms depend on the aircraft, the borrower and the structure.

Ownership

Owning the Aircraft

Aircraft management

A management company typically handles crew, maintenance, compliance and operations for the owner.

Charter revenue

Placing an aircraft on a charter certificate can offset some costs, at the price of wear and reduced availability.

Home base

Base location affects hangar availability, crew, costs and how quickly the aircraft reaches you.

Monaco aircraft owners

Owners based in Monaco usually operate through Nice Côte d'Azur, with a short helicopter or car transfer.

Family office and corporate

We work with family offices, companies and their advisers, including on structure, approvals and confidentiality.

Replacing an existing aircraft

Selling and buying can be coordinated so timing, trade-in and transition are managed together.

Acquisition with interim charter

While the search runs, charter can be arranged so your travel continues uninterrupted.

Ferry and delivery

Positioning the aircraft for inspection, refurbishment and delivery is planned with the seller and operator.

The first 90 days

Crew familiarisation, cabin set-up, connectivity, insurance and management handover all happen early.

Resale

Model choice, maintenance and records today shape what the aircraft is worth when you eventually sell.

While you search

Keep Flying in the Meantime

Charter bridges the gap until delivery. See Private Jet Charter or empty legs.
