Corsica is mountainous and largely undeveloped, with clear water, granite and limestone cliffs, and anchorages that stay quiet long after the mainland coast is full. It rewards a slower, exploratory charter.

Bonifacio, Scandola and the Corsican coast

Bonifacio

A citadel on white limestone cliffs above a narrow natural harbour at Corsica's southern tip. Berths are limited in summer; many yachts anchor nearby and tender in.

Lavezzi Islands

Granite islets and clear shallows in the Strait of Bonifacio, inside a protected marine area. Anchoring and landing rules apply and are planned by the captain.

Porto-Vecchio

A deep gulf on the south-east coast, close to Palombaggia and Santa Giulia, and a natural base for the south and for Sardinia.

Calvi

A citadel town and wide bay in the north-west, with an airport close by. A frequent start or finish for west-coast charters.

Girolata

A tiny village reachable only on foot or by sea, set in a sheltered gulf beside the Scandola reserve.

Scandola

Red porphyry cliffs, sea caves and pinnacles in a protected nature reserve. Viewed from the water, with strict restrictions on anchoring.

Ajaccio

Corsica's capital, with a major marina and airport. A practical embarkation point for the west coast and the Sanguinaires.

Gulf of Valinco

A broad, quieter gulf around Propriano, with long beaches and protected anchorages between Ajaccio and Bonifacio.

One day in southern Corsica

Sardinia, the Riviera and short charters

Corsica and Sardinia

The Strait of Bonifacio is a short crossing to La Maddalena and the Costa Smeralda. Combining both islands is one of the most rewarding weekly routes in the Western Mediterranean, always subject to weather.

Corsica and the French Riviera

Many charters embark in Monaco, Nice, Cannes or Saint-Tropez and cross to Calvi or Saint-Florent. It is an open-sea passage, so the plan includes a weather window and a fallback.

Weekend and short charters

Two or three nights work best starting on the island — Porto-Vecchio for the south, Calvi or Ajaccio for the west — rather than crossing from the mainland.

Paddleboards, snorkelling, seabobs and tenders are available on many yachts. Diving is arranged with licensed local centres where permitted.

Your total charter budget

The charter fee covers the yacht and crew. On top of it expect applicable taxes — French VAT rules apply in French waters and depend on the yacht, contract and itinerary — plus port and marina fees, an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for fuel, food, drink and berths, possible delivery fees, and a customary crew gratuity at your discretion. We set out every element in writing before you sign.

Berths, protected areas and crossings

Berth, mooring or anchorage

Harbours at Bonifacio, Calvi and Porto-Vecchio are small and busy in summer; berths are never guaranteed. Larger yachts often anchor or use managed moorings and tender ashore.

Protected areas

Scandola, the Lavezzi and the Bouches de Bonifacio are protected, with rules on anchoring, speed and landing. Your captain plans every stop within the current regulations.

Weather and passages

Strong westerly and north-westerly winds can funnel through the Strait. Crossings to Sardinia or the mainland are timed for suitable windows, with a sheltered alternative planned.

Timing & travel

When to go, Calvi or Bonifacio, and flying in

The season runs from about late May to early October. June and September bring warm water and quieter anchorages; July and August are the peak.

Calvi suits the dramatic north-west and Scandola; Bonifacio and Porto-Vecchio suit the Lavezzi, the southern beaches and Sardinia. A week can include either, depending on weather.

Calvi, Ajaccio, Bastia and Figari receive private aircraft. We arrange private jets and helicopter transfers around the charter.
