Hvar is a long island in central Dalmatia, and Hvar town at its western end is the busiest yachting harbour in Croatia through the summer. The Pakleni islands lie immediately offshore, providing anchorages and beach clubs within a few minutes by tender.
Guests charter here for the Pakleni islands off Hvar town, the harbour quay and evening scene, lavender fields and hilltop fortress ashore and quiet southern bays away from the town. A yacht keeps all of it within reach without daily transfers, and the crew shapes each day around the weather, the sea state and how much time you want at anchor rather than under way.

Cruising Hvar
Days typically run between the Pakleni islands and the southern bays of Hvar, with the yacht returning to the town quay or anchoring offshore for the evening. Quay space in high summer is limited and allocated locally.
Hvar sits between Split and Korčula, so most weeks include all three, continuing either north to the Kornati or south to Mljet and Dubrovnik.
How Hvar works
An Anchorage Destination, Not a Superyacht Marina
Hvar is best understood as a yacht-at-anchor destination. Most larger yachts stay at anchor or on a buoy off Hvar Town or among the Pakleni Islands, with Hvar Town immediately ashore and the islands immediately offshore. Guests go ashore by tender.
A berth on the Hvar Town quay is never promised. Space is limited and in heavy demand in July and August, so any berth is confirmed for each yacht and date, and the itinerary is planned around anchorages. Tender landings depend on sea state, and a dry landing cannot always be guaranteed.
Offshore
The Pakleni Islands
The Pakleni Islands are a chain of islets and bays just off Hvar Town, not a single anchorage. Different bays suit different winds and moods, from quiet swimming coves to lively beach clubs, and the captain chooses where to stop on the day.
Boat traffic is heavy in peak season, which affects swimming and water-toy use near busy bays.
Palmižana
Palmižana and ACI Marina Palmižana
Palmižana on Sveti Klement is the Pakleni's best-known stop, with shore restaurants and walks. ACI Marina Palmižana is a small seasonal marina, open roughly April to October with around 180 berths, and its currently published maximum vessel length is 15m. It serves smaller yachts and tenders, not superyachts.
A larger yacht stays at anchor or on a buoy nearby while guests tender in for lunch or a swim. A sample day: breakfast off Hvar Town, a morning in a Pakleni bay, lunch ashore at Palmižana, and an afternoon swim, then back to Hvar Town by evening.
Ashore
Hvar Town
Hvar Town has a Renaissance square, the Fortica fortress above the harbour, and excellent restaurants. Its evenings are famous, but a Hvar charter need not be about nightlife: many guests prefer early dinners ashore and quiet nights at anchor nearby.
The rest of Hvar
Stari Grad, Jelsa, Vrboska and the South Coast
Stari Grad, on the north side of the island, is Hvar's second hub and one of the oldest towns in Europe, with a calmer feel than Hvar Town. It can serve as an alternative place to board, and large-yacht suitability there is confirmed per yacht.
- Vira: a sheltered bay on the north coast near Hvar Town.
- Jelsa and Vrboska: smaller harbours with a relaxed, local character.
- The south coast: quiet coves and vineyards running down to the sea, visited when the weather allows.
- Šćedro: a small island off the south coast with sheltered bays for swimming.

Routes from and around Hvar
Hvar sits at the centre of the Dalmatian islands, so routes combine easily.
- Split to Hvar: board in Split and spend the first evening off Hvar Town, the classic start to a week.
- Hvar and Vis: the remote island of Vis, with Biševo and the Blue Cave nearby. Cave visits depend on sea conditions and local access rules on the day.
- Hvar to Korčula: south-east past Šćedro to Korčula's walled town.
- Split to Hvar, Korčula and Dubrovnik: a one-way week through Central and Southern Dalmatia.
One-way
Starting, Finishing or Repositioning
Most charters start in Split, but a yacht can sometimes meet you directly off Hvar, or finish in Dubrovnik. Where a yacht has to reposition for your dates, a delivery fee may apply. Both are confirmed per yacht.
Arrival
Getting There Through Split
Hvar has no large-jet airport, so Split Airport is the usual gateway. It handles business and VIP flights, but for summer 2026 private arrivals and departures are subject to schedule coordination, and longer parking depends on available stands. Lund Group can coordinate private aviation into Split and the onward transfer to Hvar or the yacht, subject to aircraft scheduling, parking and current airport procedures.
Onward options include a car and boat transfer, meeting the yacht in Split, or a helicopter where a licensed operator, an approved landing point and the weather allow. We don't promise fixed transfer times.
Day charters
Day Charters Around Hvar
A Pakleni day is one of the most searched Hvar experiences. Day rates are quoted separately and are not a weekly rate divided by seven. Most superyachts accept only weekly bookings in high season.
For a day around the Pakleni or to Vis, smaller local motor yachts or speedboats with a captain are usually the right fit. We can source these privately and check they hold the right permissions, even when none appear below.

Choosing a Yacht for Hvar
Because Hvar is an anchorage destination, the yacht's tender matters as much as the yacht itself.
- Sailing yachts, catamarans, motor yachts and the traditional Croatian gulet all work here. Catamarans suit families who want space and stability at anchor.
- The tender: a fast, comfortable tender makes Hvar Town and Palmižana easy. Ask about its size and how guests board.
- Stabilisers at anchor help on nights off busy anchorages.
- Water toys are popular, but traffic around the Pakleni limits where they can be used.
- Families and accessibility: tender transfers can be hard for some guests, so tell us your needs early. Events and evenings ashore are planned around the tender schedule.
Season
Season and Weather
The season runs roughly May to October. July and August bring the most demand on anchorages and the harbour, while June and September are calmer. The summer maestral builds in the afternoon, and the jugo and bura can change plans. The captain has the final say on each day's route and anchorage.
Compliance
Croatian Charter Rules, in Plain Terms
The paperwork sits with the yacht and its agent; here is what it means for guests.
- Crew and guest lists, including the Croatian e-Crew list, are registered by the yacht. Guests supply passport details in advance, used only for these legal requirements.
- Tourist tax applies, and Croatian VAT is shown separately on the quote.
- Foreign-flag yachts need the right Croatian permissions to charter commercially. From 16 July 2026, additional limits affect some non-EU-flag yachts under 24m and gulet-type yachts. Whether they apply depends on each yacht's flag, structure and authorisation, so we verify every yacht, including day boats, before contract.
Costs
What a Hvar Charter Costs
The base rate covers the yacht and crew, but it is not the total. Add an advance provisioning allowance (APA) for fuel, food, drinks, berths and buoys, reconciled at the end; VAT; tourist tax; any delivery fee; and a crew gratuity at your discretion. Prices are shown in the yacht's own currency.
