Porto Cervo is the centre of the Costa Smeralda, on the north-east coast of Sardinia. Its marina is one of the best-known superyacht harbours in the Mediterranean, and the granite coast around it breaks into bays with unusually clear water.

The marina, the Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena

Marina di Porto Cervo

The heart of the Costa Smeralda and one of the Mediterranean's best-known superyacht harbours. In peak weeks berths are tightly limited and allocated by the marina; we request them on your behalf and confirm only what is held.

Costa Smeralda

Around twenty kilometres of granite coast broken into coves and bays with unusually clear water, from Liscia di Vacca to Capriccioli and Romazzino.

Cala di Volpe

A sheltered bay south of Porto Cervo with turquoise shallows. A classic lunch anchorage, with tender access ashore for guests who wish to dine on land.

Porto Rotondo

A quieter harbour village on the Gulf of Cugnana, an alternative embarkation point and a gentler evening than Porto Cervo.

Poltu Quatu

A narrow fjord-like inlet north of Porto Cervo, with a small marina set among granite. Useful as a calmer base close to La Maddalena.

La Maddalena Archipelago

Granite islands and pale sand a short passage north, inside a national park. Anchoring, speed and landing are regulated; your captain plans every stop within the current rules.

Caprera

Linked to La Maddalena by a causeway, with pine-backed coves and walking trails. Some bays are restricted inside the park.

Spargi

An uninhabited island with celebrated beaches such as Cala Corsara. Busy with day boats at midday, calmer early and late.

Berth, anchorage and protected waters

Berth in the marina

A berth puts you in the social heart of Porto Cervo. In July, August and regatta weeks berths are scarce and allocated by the marina; nothing is presented as held until it is confirmed.

Anchorage in the bays

Many yachts anchor in nearby bays and tender ashore — often quieter, cooler and more private. The captain chooses the anchorage by weather and wind.

National park and seagrass

La Maddalena is a national park and Posidonia seagrass is protected. Anchoring, speed and landing rules apply and can change; confirm before travel. Your captain plans every stop accordingly.

A perfect day

One day from Porto Cervo

  1. Morning

    Leave the marina early for a swim in the clear water off Spargi before the day boats arrive.

  2. Midday

    Lunch on deck at anchor in a quiet La Maddalena bay, within the park rules.

  3. Afternoon

    Return along the Costa Smeralda with a stop in Cala di Volpe for water toys.

  4. Evening

    Back to Porto Cervo — berth or anchorage as confirmed — and dinner ashore or aboard.

Day charters

Where a suitable yacht is genuinely available, a day on the Costa Smeralda or to La Maddalena. Day charters are confirmed yacht by yacht and are rarely offered on larger yachts in peak weeks.

Short charters

Two to four nights suit a first look at the Costa Smeralda and La Maddalena. Many owners prefer full weeks in July and August; shorter stays are more realistic in June and September.

Weekly charters

The standard format for crewed superyachts, allowing the Costa Smeralda, the archipelago and often Corsica in one week.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda hosts regattas across the season, and some weeks bring exceptional demand for berths, anchorages and yachts. Dates are set by the organisers each year; check the club's official calendar. We do not sell event access — we plan the yacht around the dates you choose.

Porto Cervo is built for large yachts. Expect full crew, tenders, water toys and space for entertaining in the marina or at anchor.

Sailing yachts

The Strait of Bonifacio and the archipelago offer excellent sailing. Regatta weeks bring the classic and modern sailing fleets to town.

Family charters

Short hops between sheltered bays, shallow turquoise water and crews used to children make the area very family-friendly.

Private celebrations

Birthdays and anniversaries aboard, with chefs, floral design and entertainment arranged discreetly through the crew.

Shore experiences

Restaurants, beach clubs, golf and villa stays can be arranged around the yacht. Reservations are requested for you and never presented as guaranteed.

Your total charter budget

The charter fee covers the yacht and crew. On top of it expect applicable taxes — charters starting in Italy are normally subject to Italian VAT, with treatment depending on the yacht, contract and itinerary — plus marina and berth fees, an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for fuel, food, drink and berthing, possible delivery fees and a customary crew gratuity at your discretion. Costs vary most with the week chosen, berth versus anchorage, and fuel use on longer passages. We set out every element in writing before you sign.

Timing & travel

When to go, Porto Cervo or wider Sardinia, and flying in

The season runs from about June to September. June and September bring warm water and quieter anchorages; July and August are the peak.
