Pre-Owned Yachts for Sale

Used yachts for sale, presented the way experienced buyers assess them: verified ownership history, build year alongside every refit, and independent survey before price. A yacht appears here only once its prior delivery to an owner is documented.

Market snapshot

Verified pre-owned sample

A median is only published once at least five verified pre-owned listings with EUR asking prices exist. Current sample: 2. Price history is shown on each yacht profile where recorded; reductions are not treated as depreciation.

Buying pre-owned

What decides value is evidence, not age

Pre-purchase survey

An independent hull and machinery survey, specific to steel, aluminium or composite construction, is the foundation of every pre-owned purchase. Sailing yachts add rig and keel inspection; catamarans add bridgedeck and hull-joint checks; explorers add tank and ice-class review.

Engines and generators

Engine and generator hours, overhaul history, replacement events and oil analysis are reviewed together. Hours alone never decide condition.

Class, flag and condition

Classification shows that rules were met at survey, flag decides legal regime and commercial eligibility. Neither guarantees condition, and upcoming class renewal work affects cost.

Total acquisition cost

Purchase price is only the start: survey, sea trial, near-term work flagged by survey, paint and teak, VAT or import, insurance, delivery and crew. We estimate per yacht, not by percentage.

Former charter yachts

Commercial operation brings logged maintenance and compliance but also usage. We review charter history, logbooks and MCA/REG code status. No charter income projections are offered.

VAT and tax status

“Tax paid” is not the same as EU VAT paid. Status depends on documentation, ownership structure and intended use; specialist advice is required before contract.

Pre-owned or new?

Pre-owned offers immediate use, a proven yacht and visible history; new offers specification control, warranty and a known start. Neither is better by default. We advise on the one that fits your timeline and plans.

Questions

What does pre-owned mean here?

A yacht that has previously been delivered to, registered or owned by an end owner before this sale. It describes ownership history, not age: a yacht delivered in 2023 can already be pre-owned.

Are used yachts and pre-owned yachts the same?

Yes. “Used yachts for sale” is the common search term; we use pre-owned because condition depends on maintenance, refits and survey findings, not on the word used.

Does a refit make a yacht newer?

No. A refit can renew systems, paint or interiors, but the build year stays the same. We show build year and refit history side by side.

Is a former charter yacht a risk?

Not necessarily. Charter yachts are often professionally crewed and maintained under commercial codes. Review logbooks, class and survey records rather than assuming either way.

How much should I budget beyond the purchase price?

It depends entirely on the yacht: survey findings, upcoming class work, paint, machinery overhauls, VAT position and relocation. We build a yacht-specific estimate rather than applying a rule-of-thumb percentage.

Do engine hours tell me the condition?

Only partly. Low hours with poor maintenance can be worse than higher hours with documented overhauls. Hours, service records and oil analysis are read together.

Can you search beyond public listings?

Yes. Lund Group reviews the wider market, including discreet off-market opportunities, without presenting any yacht as available until confirmed.
