How Much Does It Cost to Charter a Yacht?
The charter fee and everything that sits alongside it, so the final invoice holds no surprises.
The fee is quoted per week
Charter rates are quoted per week, for a defined cruising area and guest number, and they move with the season. July and August in the Mediterranean, Christmas and New Year in the Caribbean, and any week overlapping a major event are the peaks. The same yacht in June or September is a different proposition.
What sits on top
Expect the APA, VAT where the itinerary attracts it, delivery or redelivery fees where the yacht is repositioned for you, and a discretionary crew gratuity. A responsible quotation states all of these before you sign, not after.
- Advance Provisioning Allowance, typically a percentage of the fee.
- VAT, depending on flag, itinerary and jurisdiction.
- Delivery and redelivery where applicable.
- Berthing and marina fees, usually through the APA.
- Crew gratuity, by convention and at your discretion.
How to get the most for the budget
Shoulder-season dates, a slightly shorter yacht with the right layout, and a cruising area that avoids long transits all buy more actual time on the water than a longer yacht used badly.
