Heavy Jets

Heavy jets provide large-cabin comfort, substantial baggage capacity and long-haul capability for passengers who need more aircraft than super midsize, without necessarily requiring an ultra-long-range jet.

At a glance

Heavy Jets in Brief

Passengers

Typically 10–14 in charter layouts, depending on model and cabin.

Typical mission

Long-haul sectors of roughly five to eight hours; about 4,000 nm-class.

Luggage

Substantial baggage capacity, often with in-flight access.

Cabin

Large stand-up cabin, usually with two or three zones.

The answer

What Is a Heavy Jet?

A heavy jet sits between super midsize and long-range aircraft. Every flight is operated by a licensed operator; LUND GROUP does not own aircraft and sources live availability for your date.

Large-cabin comfort

Wide stand-up cabins with separate zones for dining, work and rest.

Larger groups

Families, staff and teams of ten or more travelling together.

Long-haul without ultra-long-range cost

Transatlantic and Europe–Gulf reach without automatically moving to a long-range jet.

Moving up

Who Needs a Heavy Jet?

More than ten passengers

Comfortable seating for larger groups.

Overnight flights

Seats that convert to beds and zones that allow privacy.

Lots of luggage

Holiday, ski, golf or yacht luggage for a full cabin.

Full galley & attendant

Better catering and service on long flights.

Stay small

When a Super Midsize Is Enough

See our super midsize jets guide.

Eight or fewer passengers

A super midsize often seats them comfortably.

Daytime sectors

Under about five hours, a stand-up super midsize cabin is usually enough.

Budget first

A super midsize is usually less expensive on the same route.

Moving up again

When to Move to Long Range

Ultra-long sectors

Non-stop flights well beyond 4,000 nm, such as Europe–Asia or Gulf–US.

Mission margin

More range in hand for winds, full payload and alternates.

Bedroom suites

Larger long-range cabins can offer dedicated sleeping areas.

Practicalities

Passengers, Range, Cabin and Baggage

Passenger capacity

Manufacturer maximums include crew and dense layouts; charter cabins seat fewer, more comfortably.

Range

Published range is a maximum. Passengers, baggage, winds, temperature, weather and reserves all reduce it.

Transatlantic

Many heavy jets cross the North Atlantic non-stop on suitable days; westbound winds and full loads can require a stop.

Technical stops

A fuel stop may be planned for winds, payload or airport limits. It adds time but can be the right call.

Cabin height & width

Wide stand-up cabins; figures vary by model.

Cabin zones

Usually two or three zones for dining, working and resting.

Privacy

Zones and dividers allow some separation; there is no fully private bedroom on most heavy jets.

Sleeping

Seats and divans convert to beds; berth count confirmed per aircraft.

Full galley

Most offer a full galley for hot meals on long flights.

Lavatory

Usually enclosed, sometimes with a forward crew lavatory as well.

Baggage

Large hold capacity; bulky items confirmed with the operator.

In-flight baggage access

Often available; confirmed per aircraft.

Connectivity

Depends on the individual aircraft's installation, not the model.

Older aircraft & refurbishment

Many charter heavy jets are earlier models; interior refurbishment and avionics upgrades vary widely.

Missions

Heavy Jets in Europe, the Mediterranean and Beyond

Europe ↔ Gulf

A core heavy-jet mission, typically non-stop subject to winds and load.

Riyadh → Monaco

Usually via Nice; heat at departure can affect payload.

Destination page

Doha → Monaco

Typically within heavy-jet range into Nice, confirmed per flight.

Abu Dhabi → Monaco

Often non-stop to Nice; winds and load decide.

Destination page

Europe ↔ Miami

Near the edge of heavy-jet range; a technical stop may be needed.

Destination page

London ↔ New York

Often non-stop eastbound; westbound winds can require a stop on some aircraft.

Destination page

South America ↔ Europe

Usually requires a stop; long range is the alternative.

Asia ↔ Europe

Generally a long-range mission or one with a stop.

US coast to coast

Comfortably within range for a full cabin.

Saint-Tropez

La Môle is not suitable for heavy jets; Nice or Toulon are typical.

Destination page

Cannes

Cannes-Mandelieu restrictions usually rule out heavy jets; Nice is the alternative.

Destination page

Santorini

Island airport constraints apply; Athens is often the fallback.

Travel styles

Corporate, Family, Yacht, Ski and Pets

For regular multi-city travel, see corporate aviation.

Family & staff

Room for children, nannies and security, with zones for each.

Corporate & roadshows

Meeting space and rest on long multi-city trips.

Yacht travel

Large luggage loads for the season; soft bags still preferred.

Formula 1 & events

Peak-demand dates book early; parking for large aircraft can be limited.

Ski travel

Ample hold space; mountain airports may limit aircraft size.

Pets

Depends on operator policy and entry rules; confirmed before booking.

Airport access

Larger aircraft need longer runways and suitable parking; checked per flight.

Hot weather

High temperatures reduce payload and range; departure timing may change.

Crew & cabin attendant

Long flights may need extra crew for duty limits; a cabin attendant is typical on heavy jets.

What Shapes a Heavy Jet Quote

Every flight is quoted individually. A heavy jet usually costs more per hour than a super midsize but can carry a larger group in one aircraft; a planned technical stop can sometimes cost less than moving to long range. One-way flights may include positioning; multi-city trips can include crew overnights. Look for verified empty legs.
