The Seychelles inner islands sit in the western Indian Ocean and are unusual in being granite rather than coral: smooth boulders, steep green interiors and short passages between Mahé, Praslin, La Digue and the surrounding islets. The outer atolls lie much further out.

The Seychelles are warm year-round. Conditions are generally calmest between the monsoons, around April to May and October to November, while the south-east trades from May to September bring steadier wind and the north-west monsoon more rain.
