British Virgin Islands Yacht Charter

The British Virgin Islands — the BVI — are a British Overseas Territory of around sixty islands and cays in the eastern Caribbean. Islands sit close together around the protected Sir Francis Drake Channel, so days are spent at anchor, swimming and exploring rather than travelling.

This page focuses on crewed luxury yachts, catamarans and superyachts, not bareboat rental. Public listings in the BVI are limited, and many of the best yachts are offered privately, so we source for each enquiry.

Virgin Gorda is known for The Baths, a beach of giant granite boulders and pools, and for North Sound, a large sheltered anchorage ringed by reefs and resorts. The Baths are best visited early and in calm conditions; access depends on the swell.

Yachts chartering commercially in BVI waters need the right permission from the local authorities, and cruising permits and fees may apply. Rules can change, so we check each yacht's current status rather than rely on general statements.

Steady trade winds and short passages make the BVI one of the world's classic sailing grounds. Motor yachts cover the islands faster and suit guests who want more time at anchor.

Luxury crewed catamarans are especially popular: stable, spacious and shallow-drafted. Superyachts are available but are limited by draft and anchorage size in some bays, so routes are planned with the captain.

There is no single price. Cost depends on the yacht, its size and crew, the season, the length of the charter and the route. Each listed yacht's rate is shown in its original currency.

The base rate is not all-inclusive. Expect an APA (advance provisioning allowance) for fuel, food, drinks, moorings and extras; unused funds are reconciled at the end. Local taxes, cruising permits or fees that apply, and a customary crew gratuity, come on top.

Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) on Beef Island, Tortola, is the main gateway. Many guests connect via St Thomas, San Juan in Puerto Rico or St Maarten, then take a short flight or ferry.
