The British Virgin Islands are a close-set group at the north-eastern edge of the Caribbean, arranged around the sheltered Sir Francis Drake Channel. Line-of-sight navigation, steady trade winds and very short passages make the BVI one of the easiest cruising grounds anywhere.

The BVI season runs from roughly December to April, with the trade winds most consistent in the early months of the year. Christmas and New Year are the busiest weeks; February to April is usually the most comfortable for sailing.

Cruising the British Virgin Islands
A BVI week moves between islands in an hour or two at a time, mooring or anchoring for swimming, snorkelling and beach stops. Moorings are widely used and some sites are managed by the national parks authority.
Charters often start at Tortola and loop the Drake Channel. Longer itineraries continue to the US Virgin Islands or south towards St Barts and Anguilla with clearance arranged in advance.
