Yachts Suited to Family Charter

Tell us about the family. We'll build the shortlist.

Share ages, cabins, destination and dates. We review yachts, crews and layouts privately, then present a shortlist suited to everyone travelling.

Babies & toddlers

Charter with babies and toddlers

With very young children, the details matter more than the yacht's length: where their cabin sits relative to yours, whether there is shade on deck, how steep the stairs are, and whether cots, high chairs or stair gates can be arranged for that yacht.

We plan short passages, calm anchorages and a daily rhythm around naps. Baby equipment availability is confirmed per yacht — it is never assumed.

Children

Yacht charter with kids

Children usually remember the swimming, the beach, the tender rides and the crew. Gentle toys, snorkelling and sheltered bays tend to matter more than anything else aboard.

Supervision always stays with parents or the family's own staff. Crew help and include children, but they are not childcare.

Teenagers

Yacht charter with teenagers

Teenagers want independence, connectivity and things to do. Cabin location, water toys, wake sports, diving (where qualified and permitted) and evenings ashore can make the difference between a family trip they endure and one they ask to repeat.

Multigenerational

Multigenerational yacht charter

When grandparents travel too, we look at stairs, handrails, cabin access, shade, stability at anchor and quiet spaces away from the children. Mobility needs are discussed openly and confirmed against each proposed yacht.

Cabins

Cabin layout matters more than guest count

A yacht licensed for twelve guests may still be a poor fit for your family. Which cabins are on which deck, whether children can sleep near parents, twin versus double configurations, and whether a cabin converts for a nanny all shape the trip.

We review deck plans with you before any shortlist is finalised.

Stability

Stability and seasickness

Stabilisers (underway and at anchor, where fitted), hull type, itinerary planning and anchoring choices all affect comfort. Catamarans and larger motor yachts can feel steadier for some families, but no yacht removes motion entirely.

We plan passage times around weather and children's routines, and suggest families discuss seasickness remedies with their doctor before travelling.

Crew

Crew matter enormously

A family-experienced crew changes everything — patient, warm, safety-minded and comfortable with children aboard. Child-friendly crew are not a nanny service. If you need childcare, bring your own nanny or ask us about arranging qualified family staff where the yacht can accommodate them.

Food

Food, children and allergies

Chefs can plan children's meals, early suppers and favourites alongside adult dining. Preference sheets are completed before the charter.

Allergies and dietary requirements are shared with the chef and crew, but no galley can guarantee an allergen-free environment. Families managing serious allergies should bring medication and discuss arrangements in detail before booking.

Water toys

Water toys and their rules

Paddleboards, kayaks, inflatables, snorkelling, seabobs, jet skis and foils vary by yacht. Age, weight, supervision and local rules apply — jet skis and powered toys in particular are restricted in many areas and often require licences.

Beach clubs and swim platforms make swimming easy; pools and jacuzzis are welcome where fitted but are always supervised by parents.

Safety

Family safety briefing and lifejackets

Every charter begins with a safety briefing. We ask the crew to include children in a way they understand, and confirm in advance that correctly sized child lifejackets are aboard for each child's weight.

Itinerary

Family itinerary design

Good family itineraries are slower: shorter passages, morning swims, a beach or village ashore, and calm anchorages at night. Different ages want different days — we build in time for each.

School holidays concentrate demand in July, August, Easter and the winter break. Earlier enquiries give more choice of yacht and crew.

Celebrations

Birthdays and family celebrations

Milestone birthdays, anniversaries and reunions work beautifully aboard — a cake, a dinner on deck, a beach set-up where permitted. We plan the moment without overpromising what local rules allow.

Practicalities

Privacy, Wi-Fi, schooling, pets and pregnancy

Privacy: crew sign confidentiality expectations, and we avoid sharing family details beyond what is operationally needed.

Wi-Fi and screen time: connectivity varies by yacht and location; some families agree screen-free hours aboard.

Tutors or schooling: on longer charters a tutor can sometimes join if a cabin is available.

Pets: rarely permitted and only with owner approval and local entry rules met.

Pregnancy: discuss travel with your doctor; we can plan calmer passages and avoid strenuous activities.

Yacht type

Motor, sailing or catamaran — and why size is not the answer

Motor yachts give space and speed between anchorages; catamarans offer wide, level decks; sailing yachts suit families who want the experience of sailing. Bigger is not automatically better — layout, crew and toys usually matter more than length.

Cost

Family yacht charter cost, APA and inclusions

Charter fees depend on the yacht, season, destination and length. Most charters add an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA) for fuel, food, drinks, berthing and extras, plus VAT where applicable and a customary crew gratuity.

What is included varies per contract. We set out base fee, APA, taxes and extras clearly before you commit. We do not publish prices on this page.

Travel

Private aviation, luggage and car seats

We can coordinate private jets, transfers with correctly fitted child car seats, and luggage — soft bags store far more easily aboard than hard cases.

Private sourcing

Private sourcing vs public inventory

Many family-suitable yachts are not shown publicly. We review the wider market around your family's ages, cabins and destination and present a short, honest shortlist.

Questions

Family yacht charter FAQ

Are yachts safe for children?

Yachts can be a wonderful family environment, but no yacht is childproof. We confirm safety equipment, child lifejackets and layout per yacht, and the crew give a safety briefing. Parents remain responsible for supervision.

What is the best yacht for a family charter?

It depends on your family's ages, cabin needs and destination. Layout, crew and stability usually matter more than length.

Can we charter a yacht with a baby or toddler?

Yes. We check cabin proximity, shade, stairs and whether cots or high chairs can be arranged for the specific yacht.

Will the crew look after our children?

Crew are welcoming and helpful, but they are not a childcare service. Bring your own nanny, or ask us about qualified family staff where a cabin is available.

Can a nanny travel with us?

Usually, if the yacht has a suitable guest or crew cabin. We confirm accommodation before booking.

Which water toys are suitable for children?

Paddleboards, kayaks, inflatables and snorkelling suit most ages. Powered toys have age, licence and local restrictions confirmed per yacht and destination.

Can children use jet skis?

Often not, or only as passengers with an adult. Rules vary by country and yacht.

Do yachts have child lifejackets?

We confirm correctly sized child lifejackets are aboard for each child before the charter.

Can the chef cater for children and allergies?

Yes, chefs plan children's meals. Allergies are shared in advance, but an allergen-free galley cannot be guaranteed.

What about seasickness?

Stabilisers, itinerary planning and anchorage choice help. Speak to your doctor about remedies before travelling.

Is a catamaran better for families?

Catamarans offer level decks and space and can feel steadier at anchor, but suitability depends on your family and destination.

Is a multigenerational charter possible?

Yes. We review stairs, cabin access, shade and quiet spaces for grandparents alongside children's needs.

How much does a family yacht charter cost?

Costs depend on yacht, season and destination, plus APA, taxes and gratuity. We provide a clear breakdown for your brief.

When should we book for school holidays?

As early as possible — July, August and holiday weeks are in highest demand.

Can two families charter together?

Yes. We look for balanced cabins and can help structure how the cost is shared.

Can you arrange private jets and transfers?

Yes, including transfers with suitable child car seats.

No yacht is childproof. Equipment, toys, crew experience and suitability are confirmed per yacht in writing for your charter. Parents and guardians remain responsible for supervising children aboard and in the water.
