Birthday Yacht Charter
Guest capacity, music, catering and event use are verified before you commit.
Tell us four things
Date, destination, guests — day or overnight?
The most important question comes first: how many people will celebrate aboard, and how many will sleep aboard? Those are two different numbers, and they decide the yacht.
We match the yacht to the celebration
Start with the guests, the moment and the place. We then approach only yachts whose owners accept private celebrations of that kind.
Verified before you commit
Event capacity, amplified music, catering, decor and children are confirmed for your yacht, date and location — never assumed from a brochure.
Private, not public
A birthday aboard is a private party for invited guests. No ticket sales, no public promotion and no mass-market party-boat format.
Start with guests
How large is the celebration aboard?
Intimate (2–12)
Partner, family or close friends. A seated dinner, a day at anchor or a weekend aboard can all work on one yacht.
Dinner party (12–30)
Seated dinner capacity is the limit — usually lower than standing numbers and rarely the same as sleeping berths.
Celebration (30–80)
Typically alongside in port, on a larger yacht with an event permission for that location.
Party and overnight
Many guests for the evening, a few staying aboard. Event guests and overnight guests are planned separately.
Celebration fleet
Yachts Suited to Birthday Celebrations
Tell us the celebration. We'll source the yacht.
Each yacht sets its own rules for guest numbers, music, catering and decor. Share your date, destination and guest list, and we'll approach suitable yachts privately and present only those that can genuinely host your birthday.
Plan My Birthday CharterFormats
A day, an evening, a weekend or a week
One-day birthday
Board mid-morning, swim at anchor, a long lunch prepared by the chef, cake at sunset and back to port by evening.
Evening birthday
Sunset aperitif, a seated dinner alongside or at anchor, music within the yacht's rules and tender transfers planned for the return.
Birthday weekend
Two or three nights aboard for the closest guests, with the celebration dinner as the centrepiece and a slower day after.
Birthday week
A full charter with the birthday folded into the itinerary — a different bay, restaurant or moment each day.
Atmosphere
How do you want it to feel?
Intimate dinner
Candlelight within the yacht's fire rules, a chef's menu and conversation.
Family day
Swimming, water toys, a long lunch and cake — planned around children and grandparents.
Sunset celebration
Aperitif at anchor, music at a sensible level and the return in the evening light.
Music-led evening
DJ or live musicians only where the yacht, the location and the hour allow it.
Read this first
Sleeping guests are not party guests
A yacht described as "12 guests" usually means 12 people sleeping aboard overnight. It says nothing about how many can join a birthday dinner or an evening celebration.
Event capacity is set separately and changes with location: underway, at anchor, alongside in port or under a specific permit. External staff — a DJ, photographer or extra waiters — may count towards the persons-aboard limit. We confirm the number for your yacht, location and format, and only show verified figures.
Surprise birthdays
Planning a surprise aboard
Tell us it is a surprise and we will speak only to you, never to the person being celebrated. We plan how guests arrive before the birthday person, how the yacht is revealed and who holds the timing on the day.
Surprise details are kept with your adviser and are not included in shared booking documents unless you ask.
Dining
Chef, menu, cake and drinks
The yacht's chef plans the menu with you before the charter: a seated dinner, a long lunch or a relaxed buffet. Dietary requirements and allergies are shared in advance so the chef can provision properly.
Birthday cakes can usually be made aboard or delivered from a local pâtissier, subject to the yacht's policy on external food. Drinks are ordered against your advance provisioning budget; some yachts accept your own wines, sometimes with a corkage fee.
Music
DJ, amplified music and live musicians
Amplified music is not automatic. It depends on the yacht's owner, the anchorage or port, the time of night and local noise rules. Many anchorages are quiet areas; some ports allow music alongside only until a set hour.
A DJ or live musicians can be arranged where permitted, and count towards persons aboard. We confirm sound limits, power and placement before anything is booked.
Decoration
Flowers, decor, fireworks and drones
Flowers and table decoration are usually welcome. Confetti, glitter, balloons, open flames and adhesive items are often restricted to protect the yacht and the sea.
Fireworks need permission from the yacht, the port or local authority and a licensed operator — they are never guaranteed. Drones need the yacht's consent and local flight approval.
Photography and privacy
Photographs, privacy and security
A photographer or videographer can join the celebration, counted as part of persons aboard. If privacy matters, we can agree no-phones moments, no social posting and discreet arrival. Close protection is available through our private security team.
Children and family
Children's and family birthdays
We tell the crew the number and ages of children in advance, so life jackets, swimming supervision and water toys are planned properly. Water toys and swimming depend on conditions, location and crew judgement; the captain may stop swimming for safety.
Where to celebrate
At anchor, in port or underway
At anchor feels private but depends on sea state, tender transfers and quiet-area rules. In port allows more guests, easier boarding and often more music, subject to the marina. Moving with many guests aboard is more limited; a celebration is usually best held stationary.
Guests going ashore and back need tender runs — we plan the timing so nobody waits at the end of the evening. Tell us about mobility or accessibility needs early so the boarding plan suits every guest.
Crew and staff
The crew are not event staff
The yacht's crew run the yacht safely and look after guests to a high standard, but larger celebrations may need extra waiters, bar staff or a planner. Any external staff need the yacht's approval and may count towards persons aboard.
Plan B
Bad weather and safety
Every birthday needs a weather plan: a sheltered anchorage, a move into port or a change of time. Weather does not automatically cancel a charter — the terms of your contract decide what happens. The captain has the final say on safety, which we explain gently in advance so it never spoils the mood.
Costs
What a birthday yacht charter costs
The base charter rate is not the birthday total. Expect the charter fee, an advance provisioning allowance (APA, often around 20–40% of the fee for longer charters) for fuel, food, drinks and berths, applicable taxes, and any event fees, extra staff, decor, music or permits.
Day rates and minimum terms must be verified per yacht and season. We do not publish a price floor — we prepare a written proposal once the guest list, location and format are known.
Beyond the yacht
What Lund Group can also arrange
Private jets and group flights, helicopter transfers, a hotel or villa for guests, chauffeurs, a restaurant table or an after-party ashore, gift delivery to the yacht, and a playlist or birthday profile shared with the crew in advance.

Questions
Birthday yacht charter FAQ
How many guests can join a birthday on a yacht?
It depends on the yacht, the location and the format. Event capacity is separate from sleeping capacity and is confirmed in writing for your yacht, date and place.
Can I invite more than 12 guests?
Often yes for a day or evening event — the 12-guest figure usually refers to overnight guests. Larger groups normally need a larger yacht, an event permission or a celebration alongside in port.
Can we have a DJ aboard?
Only where the yacht, the anchorage or port and the hour allow amplified music. We confirm sound rules before booking; a DJ is never guaranteed in advance.
Can we have fireworks?
Only with permission from the yacht, the port or local authority, and a licensed operator. Many locations do not permit them.
Can the chef make a birthday cake?
Usually yes. A local pâtissier can also deliver one, subject to the yacht's policy on external food.
Can you organise a surprise birthday?
Yes. We communicate only with the organiser and plan arrivals and the reveal discreetly.
Can I charter a yacht for just one day?
Yes, many yachts offer day charters in season, subject to minimum terms and availability. Some prefer longer bookings in peak weeks.
What happens if the weather is bad?
We plan an alternative — a sheltered bay, a port celebration or a different time. The charter contract sets out what happens if the trip cannot go ahead.
How much does a birthday yacht charter cost?
The total includes the charter fee, APA for food, drinks and fuel, taxes and any event extras. We prepare a written proposal once the guest list and location are known.
How far in advance should I book?
For peak summer weekends, several months ahead. Shorter notice is possible but the choice of yachts narrows.
Can children come?
Yes on most yachts. Tell us ages in advance so safety equipment, swimming and activities are planned properly.
Can we bring decorations?
Flowers and table decor are usually welcome. Confetti, glitter, balloons and open flames are often restricted.
Can we bring our own drinks?
Some yachts accept guests' own wines, sometimes with corkage. Most provisioning is ordered through the APA.
Can a photographer come aboard?
Yes with the yacht's approval. They count towards the number of persons aboard.
Can we fly a drone?
Only with the yacht's consent and local flight approval.
Is it better to celebrate at anchor or in port?
At anchor is more private; in port allows more guests, easier boarding and often more music. We recommend based on your plan.
Can we celebrate while the yacht is moving?
A short cruise is possible, but larger celebrations are usually safer and more comfortable when stationary.
Can some guests stay overnight?
Yes. Overnight guests are limited to the yacht's licensed sleeping capacity, which is separate from the party guest count.
Do I need to provide event staff?
For larger celebrations, extra waiters or a planner may be needed. We arrange them with the yacht's approval.
Is the yacht's crew included?
Yes, the professional crew is included in the charter fee. A gratuity is customary at the end of the charter.
Can you arrange flights and hotels for guests?
Yes — private jets, group flights, helicopter transfers, hotels, villas and chauffeurs.
Which destinations are best for a birthday?
The French Riviera, Monaco, Saint-Tropez, Ibiza, the Amalfi Coast and Greece in summer; the Caribbean in winter.
Is a birthday charter a public event?
No. It is a private celebration for invited guests. We do not arrange ticketed or publicly promoted events.
Can we plan an 18th or 21st birthday?
Yes, with an adult organiser responsible for the booking and alcohol served in line with local law and the yacht's policy.
Do you show yachts that are already approved for birthdays?
We show only yachts with a verified, published celebration profile. Most matches are sourced privately for your date.
Event capacity, permitted locations, music, decor, fireworks, drones, external suppliers and terms are confirmed in writing per yacht, date and location, and may require owner, marina or port approval. A yacht's sleeping capacity is not its event capacity. No DJ, fireworks, guest number or availability is guaranteed until confirmed. For surprise celebrations we contact only the organiser. Lund Group is independent and not affiliated with any venue, marina or authority named on this page.
