Three ways to use a yacht
Ceremony, reception or wedding week?
Ceremony aboard
Usually a symbolic ceremony with close family, with the legal marriage completed separately. Guest numbers are typically small and depend on deck space and location.
Reception or dinner aboard
A seated dinner or cocktail reception — often alongside in port rather than at anchor, where permitted capacity can be higher.
Wedding week
The yacht as a thread through the week: welcome evening, a day at sea, accommodation for the couple or family, and a quiet day after.
Start with guests
How large is the celebration aboard?
Intimate (2–12)
Couple, or close family. Ceremony, dinner and overnight can all work on one yacht.
Dinner (12–40)
Seated dinner capacity is the limit — fewer than cocktail numbers, and rarely the same as sleeping berths.
Reception (40+)
Often a larger event yacht, or a yacht for one moment within a land-based wedding.
Wedding week
Several events across the week, with one or more yachts chosen for different moments.

Yachts Suited to Weddings
Tell us the celebration. We'll source the yacht.
Few yachts accept wedding events, and each sets its own capacity, supplier and music rules. Share your date, destination and guest numbers, and we'll approach suitable yachts privately and present only those that can genuinely host your plan.

Symbolic ceremony or legal marriage?
In most countries a legally valid marriage must be completed under local civil law — usually at a town hall or before an authorised officiant, with documents prepared in advance. A ceremony aboard a yacht is therefore normally symbolic, with the legal formalities completed separately before or after.
Please do not rely on the idea that a yacht captain can marry you. In most jurisdictions that is not the case, and where any exception might exist it depends on flag, location and local law. If a legal ceremony matters, speak to a qualified local adviser or your wedding planner early; we can coordinate the yacht around whatever they confirm.
Guest numbers
Sleeping guests are not wedding guests
A yacht described as "12 guests" usually means 12 people sleeping aboard. It says nothing about how many can attend a ceremony, sit down to dinner or join a reception.
Event capacity is set separately, and it changes with location: one figure underway, another alongside in port, another for a particular event permit. We confirm the number for your yacht, your location, your berth and your format — and only show verified figures.
Planning
The yacht does not have to host the whole wedding
Many of the best yacht weddings use the yacht for one or two moments: a welcome evening, a symbolic ceremony at anchor, the couple's arrival, or a day at sea after the celebration. The main reception can then sit at a villa or hotel without the yacht's capacity limits.
Before the wedding
Welcome events and rehearsal dinners
A welcome cocktail aboard, alongside or at anchor at sunset, gathers guests on arrival without the constraints of the main day. A rehearsal dinner suits a smaller seated group and a yacht with a proper dining space.
Ceremony aboard
A ceremony at anchor or alongside
Ceremonies at anchor feel private but are limited by sea state, tender transfers and guest numbers. Ceremonies alongside are more predictable and easier for older guests. Either way, there should be a plan for wind and weather.
Reception aboard
Seated dinner versus cocktail reception
Seated dinner capacity is almost always lower than cocktail capacity. A yacht that holds a lively reception may only seat a fraction of those guests. Decide the format first, then choose the yacht.
Wedding week
A wedding week with a yacht at its centre
A week might include a welcome evening, a family day at sea, the couple's arrival on the wedding day, and a day after for close friends — sometimes with the couple and family staying aboard throughout. We plan each moment around the right yacht, rather than one yacht for everything.
After
Honeymoon and the day after
A post-wedding day charter is a relaxed way to thank close friends. A honeymoon yacht charter can follow directly, starting in the same port — or the couple can fly to a different region entirely.
Family
Family accommodation, older guests and children
Some couples use the yacht as accommodation for parents or grandparents. Boarding is easier alongside than by tender; passerelles, stairs and deck levels matter for older guests. Children need supervision plans, and some families bring a nanny or ask us to arrange childcare.
Partners
Working with your wedding planner
Lund Group is not your wedding planner by default. We source and manage the yacht, crew, berths and travel, and work alongside your planner, or introduce planners where asked. Each yacht has its own rules on external caterers, florists and entertainers, which we confirm before anything is booked.
Decor
Flowers, decor, candles and fire
Yachts do not allow drilling, adhesives or permanent fixings. Floral installations must be freestanding and secured for wind. Naked flames are often restricted; LED candles are the usual answer. Confetti, rice and glitter are normally prohibited; petals may be allowed with the captain's agreement. Fireworks need specific permission and are often not possible.
Dining
Catering, cake, allergies and the bar
The yacht's chef can usually cater smaller dinners; larger receptions may need an approved external caterer. Wedding cakes need cool storage and stable transport. Allergies and dietary needs should be shared early. Champagne and wine can be supplied through the yacht or brought aboard, depending on the yacht's policy and APA.
Atmosphere
Music, dancing, speeches and AV
Amplified music may be restricted by the yacht, the marina or local rules, especially late at night. Dancing depends on deck space and guest numbers. Speeches need a reliable microphone and speaker set-up, which we confirm with the crew and any production supplier.
Photography
Photography, video and drones
Photographers and videographers work well aboard with a clear shot plan and good light. Drones are subject to aviation rules, restricted zones near airports and towns, and the captain's consent — they are never guaranteed.
On the day
Getting ready, the dress and shoes
Hair and makeup aboard needs a cabin with good light and stable power. Long dresses and trains need thought on passerelles and tenders. Most yachts ask guests to remove heels or wear soft soles to protect teak decks; we can suggest alternatives.
Contingency
Weather, wind and cancellation terms
Wind matters more than rain. The captain will decide whether an anchorage, a tender transfer or a ceremony on deck is safe. Every yacht wedding needs a plan B — usually alongside in port or ashore. Charter contracts set out weather and cancellation terms; read them carefully and consider event insurance.
Logistics
Embarkation, security and guest lists
Guests board from a marina berth or by tender; both need timing and a guest list shared with the crew and marina. Private security can be arranged for high-profile couples. Valuables, rings and jewellery should be managed by a named person.
Wider travel
Private aviation, villas and hotels
Lund Group can coordinate private jets and helicopters for the couple and family, group aviation for guests, chauffeured cars, and villas or hotels ashore — so the yacht sits within one plan rather than a separate booking.
Budget
What does a wedding yacht charter cost?
The charter fee is only part of the wedding budget. Add APA for fuel, food, drink and berths; VAT or local tax where applicable; crew gratuity; external suppliers; and any event permits. Day or event charters are priced differently from weekly charters, and not every yacht offers them. We give a written estimate for your specific plan.

Questions
Wedding yacht charter FAQ
Can we get legally married on a yacht?
Usually not on the yacht itself. Most countries require a civil marriage under local law, so couples typically complete the legal formalities separately and hold a symbolic ceremony aboard.
Can the captain marry us?
In most jurisdictions, no. Please don't plan around this. If a legal ceremony matters, take advice from a qualified local adviser or your planner.
What is a symbolic ceremony?
A ceremony without legal effect — vows, readings and rings — led by a celebrant or a family member, with the legal marriage completed separately.
How many guests can a yacht hold for a wedding?
It depends on the yacht, the location, whether it is underway or alongside, and the format. Sleeping capacity is not event capacity. We confirm the figure for your plan.
Is seated dinner capacity the same as reception capacity?
No. Seated dinners usually allow far fewer guests than a standing cocktail reception.
Can we hold the reception at anchor?
Sometimes, for smaller groups and calm conditions. Larger receptions are usually alongside in port, where access and permitted numbers are easier.
Can we bring our own wedding planner?
Yes, in most cases. We work alongside your planner, subject to the yacht's policy on external suppliers.
Can we bring our own florist and caterer?
Depends on the yacht. Some allow approved external suppliers; others require their own chef. We confirm before booking.
Can we decorate the yacht?
Yes, within limits: freestanding arrangements only, no drilling or adhesives, and restrictions on candles, confetti and glitter.
Are fireworks possible?
Rarely. They need specific permission and are often not permitted near ports or anchorages.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The captain decides what is safe. Every plan should include a fallback — usually alongside in port or ashore — and you should read the contract's weather terms.
Can we use a drone for photography?
Only where aviation rules and the captain allow it. Drones are never guaranteed and are restricted near airports and towns.
Can guests stay aboard?
Yes, up to the yacht's sleeping capacity. Many couples use the yacht for close family or for themselves.
Can we have music and dancing?
Usually, within the yacht's, marina's and local noise rules — amplified music can be restricted late at night.
Is the yacht suitable for older guests?
It depends on the yacht and boarding method. Boarding alongside is easier than by tender; tell us about mobility needs early.
Can children attend?
Yes, with supervision plans. We can arrange childcare or a nanny.
How far ahead should we book?
As early as possible — summer Saturdays on the Riviera are in high demand, and yachts offering event charters are limited.
What does a wedding yacht charter cost?
The charter fee is only part of it; add APA, tax where applicable, gratuity, suppliers and permits. We give a written estimate for your specific plan.
Can we charter a yacht for our honeymoon?
Yes. A honeymoon charter can start straight after the wedding, in the same port or another region.
Is Lund Group our wedding planner?
Not by default. We manage the yacht, crew, berths and travel, working with your planner or introducing one if you wish.
Event suitability, guest capacity, permitted locations, suppliers, music, decor and terms are confirmed in writing per yacht, date and location. A yacht's sleeping capacity is not its event capacity. Lund Group does not arrange legal marriage formalities unless agreed separately, and never presents a captain as able to marry a couple. Lund Group is independent and not affiliated with any venue, marina or authority named on this page.
