Private Sailing Yacht Search
Zero public listings today does not mean zero options. Tell us how you want to sail; a Lund Group adviser checks the charter market for your dates and replies with three to five verified options. We do not claim to hold hidden or off-market inventory.

Choose one. It is added to your enquiry so we can match the right yacht.
Rig, draft, air draft and sail plan matter as much as length
Sloop
One mast, one headsail. Efficient and common on modern yachts of every size — a sloop is not necessarily a small yacht.
Cutter
One mast with two headsails, giving flexible sail combinations in changing wind.
Ketch
Two masts, the aft mizzen shorter and stepped ahead of the rudder post. Spreads sail area across smaller sails.
Yawl
Two masts with a small mizzen stepped aft of the rudder post.
Schooner
Two or more masts, the foremast usually shorter or equal to the main. Strongly associated with classic yachts.
Dynarig
Freestanding rotating masts with square-rig-derived sails set from yards. Found on very few yachts; described only where verified.
Rig type ≠ mast count
Two masts can be a ketch, yawl or schooner. We record the rig and the number of masts separately.
Air draft ≠ mast length
Air draft is the height from the waterline to the highest point. It decides which bridges, canals and some marinas are possible.
Draft and variable draft
Deep keels give performance but limit shallow bays. Lifting keels and centreboards change draft — we record minimum and maximum separately.
Keel type
Fin, bulb, long keel, lifting keel or centreboard — each affects motion, performance and where the yacht can anchor.
Sail area is not a performance score
Upwind and downwind sail area are recorded as facts. Performance depends on displacement, hull, rig and crew, so we never rank yachts by sail area alone.
Sail handling
Hydraulic winches, furling systems and captive winches change how many crew are needed and how easily sail can be set or reduced.
Trial speed ≠ passage speed
Speeds from builders or races do not predict a charter itinerary. Passage times depend on wind, sea state and the captain's judgement.
Sailing yachts have engines
Every charter sailing yacht has auxiliary propulsion. Some passages will be under engine when wind, schedule or safety require.
Types of sailing charter
Performance
Prioritises sailing quality. Ask about deck layout, sail inventory and how involved guests can be.
Classic
‘Classic’ describes design and character, not just age. Original vessels and modern classics are labelled separately, with refit dates shown apart from build year.
Sailing superyacht
Superyacht describes size. A large sailing yacht may still offer tenders, toys, gym or spa — recorded per yacht.
Bluewater
Ocean-crossing capability does not mean the yacht is licensed to charter in every country. Eligibility is checked per destination.
Family
Heel, motion, deck safety, netting and the crew's experience with children matter more than length.
Will guests sail the yacht?
Guests are often welcome to trim, grind or take the helm when the captain invites them and conditions allow. The captain keeps full navigational and sailing authority, and helming is never guaranteed. Tell us how involved you would like to be.
Sailing yacht or motor yacht?
A sailing yacht trades some schedule control and interior volume for the experience of travelling under sail. Neither is always quieter: sailing is quiet under sail, but generators and engines run on both. Neither is always faster — passage speed depends on conditions and design.
CompareSailing yacht or sailing catamaran?
Catamarans sail flatter, with wide beam and shallower draft. Monohull sailing yachts usually sail closer to the wind and heel under sail. They are separate types on Lund Group.
CompareSailing yacht or superyacht?
Not opposites. Superyacht is a size classification; a 40m sailing yacht is both.
CompareWhere to charter a sailing yacht
Wind varies by month and day. We plan each itinerary around the forecast and the yacht's draft and air draft, rather than promising particular conditions.
- Greece
Island-to-island passages. Summer northerly winds in parts of the Aegean can be strong; itineraries are planned around them.
- Croatia
Many islands at short distances, making it easy to mix sailing days with sheltered anchorages.
- Sardinia
Coastline and bays around northern Sardinia, often combined with Corsica across the strait.
- Corsica
Dramatic coast and protected areas; regulations on anchoring are checked per area.
- Balearic Islands
Short hops between islands, with Posidonia-protected anchoring rules to respect.
- French Riviera
Classic-yacht heritage and late-season regattas; wind is often lighter in high summer.
- Caribbean
Winter-season trade-wind sailing between islands.
- Antigua
A long-established sailing centre with a rich regatta calendar.
- New England
Summer sailing between harbours and islands, with a deep classic-yacht tradition.
Sailing yacht charters around regattas
Spectator charters follow the racing from the water and host guests between races. Participant charters are rarer: a yacht that can race is not automatically entered, and past racing history is not current approval. Owner, captain, organiser and insurer must all agree.

How much does it cost to charter a sailing yacht?
A published rate is never the total charter cost. Each yacht is quoted in writing.
Base charter rate
The yacht and crew for the period. Rates vary widely by yacht, size, season and region, so we do not publish a market ‘from’ price.
APA
Advance Provisioning Allowance for food, drink, fuel, berths and fees. Set per charter and reconciled at the end.
Fuel
Often lower than a comparable motor yacht, but generators and engine passages still use fuel. It depends on the itinerary, not on the sails.
VAT / local tax
Depends on the yacht, flag and cruising area. Confirmed in writing per charter.
Regatta costs
Participation may involve entry fees, extra racing crew, sails, insurance and owner approval. Spectator charters avoid most of these.
Private aviation
Flights to the embarkation port can be arranged alongside the charter and quoted separately.
How a private sailing search works
- 01
You tell us dates, guests, region and how you want to sail.
- 02
We check the charter market for sailing yachts that fit, including rig, draft and crew.
- 03
We verify specifications, availability and terms directly with the yacht's representatives.
- 04
You receive three to five options — not a catalogue — with costs explained.
Questions about sailing yacht charter
How many sailing yachts does Lund Group currently list for charter?
The live count is shown at the top of this page. Today no published sailing yachts are listed. That count is not inflated: we source privately for each request instead.
If none are listed, can you still find one?
Yes. We search the charter market privately for your dates and needs, then send a short list of verified options. We do not claim to hold off-market inventory.
How many options will I receive?
Usually three to five well-matched yachts, rather than a long catalogue.
What is a sailing yacht charter?
A private, crewed charter of a monohull yacht designed to sail. The yacht, captain and crew are reserved for your party for the agreed period.
Is a sailing yacht the same as a superyacht?
No. Superyacht describes size, commonly 30m and above. Many sailing yachts are superyachts; many are not.
Is a sailing catamaran a sailing yacht?
On Lund Group they are separate types. Catamarans have their own page.
Do I need to know about rigs?
No. Tell us how you want to sail and we will translate that into rig, size and layout.
What is the difference between a ketch and a schooner?
Both often have two masts. On a ketch the forward mast is the taller one; on a schooner the aft mast is usually taller or equal.
What is air draft?
The height from the waterline to the top of the yacht. It decides which bridges and canals are possible.
Why does draft matter?
A deep keel can keep a yacht out of shallow bays or some marinas. Lifting keels reduce draft. We check moorings and anchorages for each itinerary.
Will we sail every day?
Not necessarily. Sailing depends on wind, sea state and the itinerary. Some days are under engine or spent at anchor.
Are sailing yachts zero-emission?
No. Sailing can greatly reduce fuel use, but engines and generators still run. Hybrid systems vary; we describe them only as verified for each yacht.
Is a sailing yacht always quieter?
Under sail, often yes. At anchor and under engine, generators and engines run on sailing yachts too.
Can guests help sail or helm?
Often, if invited by the captain and conditions allow. The captain keeps full navigational and sailing authority, and helming is never guaranteed.
Can we take part in a regatta?
Sometimes. A yacht that can race is not automatically entered or approved. Participation needs owner, captain, organiser and insurance approval.
Can we watch a regatta from the yacht?
Yes, many clients charter as spectators. Positioning rules are set by organisers and authorities.
Does a racing history mean the yacht races today?
No. Past results are history, not current approval to race.
Are sailing yachts suitable for children?
Many are, with the right yacht and crew. Heel, deck safety and netting are discussed before booking.
What about seasickness?
Sailing yachts heel under sail and can move differently from motor yachts. Shorter passages and sheltered itineraries help.
Are sailing yachts as luxurious as motor yachts?
Large sailing yachts can offer fine interiors, gourmet chefs, tenders, toys and sometimes spa areas. Amenities are recorded per yacht.
How much does a sailing yacht charter cost?
It depends on the yacht, size, season and region. Running costs (APA), tax and delivery are additional. We quote per yacht in writing.
Is fuel cheaper than on a motor yacht?
Often lower, but not zero. It depends on hours under engine and generator use.
Is the weekly rate divided by seven the day rate?
No. Day and short charters are priced separately, where a yacht accepts them.
Can I charter a sailing yacht for a day?
Some yachts accept day charters. Minimum terms are set per yacht.
When is the season?
Broadly May to October in the Mediterranean and New England, and winter in the Caribbean. Conditions vary by area.
What does classic mean?
Classic describes design and character. A yacht can be an original vessel or a modern build in classic style; we label them separately.
Can you arrange private flights?
Yes. Private aviation to the embarkation port can be arranged and quoted separately.
Does Lund Group own these yachts?
No. Lund Group arranges private charters; ownership and management are separate and terms are set in the charter agreement.
Are availability and rates published?
No. Both change quickly and are confirmed in writing for your dates.
